How to distinguish each type of tape and ribbons? To burn the ribbon or tape, which is the simplest way but it is difficult to tell the blended material products. We need to take one yarn each from wasp and weft to burn then to distinguish it. While burning them, we need to watch the flame , melting, smell, and ash.
Below are the types of ribbon for our reference.
Nylon ribbon: While we put it close the flame, it melts and burns immediately and after melting it drops and causing bubbles but cannnot burn constantly, smells like celery and after melting it becomes hard, round, light brown or grey like pearl beads.
Polyester ribbon: While we put it close to the flame, it metls and burns mmediately and after melting it drops and causing bubbles it can burn constantly and it smells a bit sweet and causing a little smoke, with black or dark brown color ash.
Cotton Fiber and Flax Fiber
Cotton Fiber and flax Fiber both burns while put them close to the fire and burn rapidly and flame is yellow and having bluish smoke. After burning, the cotton fiber has paper smell and having little black or grey powder ash but but flax fiber has ash smell and having a little grey and white powder ash.
